Mount Washington Wedding Vendor Spotlight

When we think of an amazing outside the box wedding experience on Vancouver Island, our answer is picturesque Mount Washington in the Comox Valley.

Imagine your ceremony, surrounded by your best friends and family, with the view stretching out as far as the eye can see, filled with the towering trees of Strathcona Provincial Park! Or...an intimate elopement on the mountain peak and the sublime experience of being married cliffside with an incredible view.

We took the time to sit down with the wedding co-ordinator, Christine and event manager Sharon to find out more about what makes Mount Washington stand above the rest! Here are some of our take aways from our experience photographing there and also talking with the Wedding coordinators about our favourite Mount Washington Wedding features.

1. Spectacular Views

Who doesn't love an amazing view? We mention beautiful backdrops quite a bit, you would be hard pressed to find  better backdrop than Mount Washington. It's picturesque in every direction you look!

2. The Staff:

The amazing staff care, and sometimes just that makes all the difference. They want you and your guests to fall in love with the idea of your wedding happening at Mount Washington! They go above and beyond to ensure you have the best experience as you plan your day with them! If you need help, information or something warm to snuggle in, there is always someone availed to help, which is so important - especially during the reception when things need to be kept on track and service needs to be smooth.

3. Chair Lift Ride to the Peak

Lift Passes included (in the summer)!! The experience of a chair lift ride on your wedding is so romantic, and such unique a chance for you both to enjoy the view and have a private moment together!

Even the base of the chairlift is amazing!

4. Stunning Photo Opportunities on the Peak

Sometimes thinking about amazing locations for your wedding photos is a challenge! With Mount Washington, you are surrounded by endless views and vistas! With a short walk you can get 360' views.

Important notes:

  • Chair lift close times vary, so ask your coordinator what time it closes. Typically 5pm is close time, so lets plan how we can get you up the mountain in time!
  • Weather can fluctuate and the chair lift may close, don't worry our back up plan below is still stunning!
  • Fog can roll in and make it hard to see up top with the right technique though this can be great for portraits!
  • Bring something warm ;D It may be summer, spring or fall...but its still chilly on the ride up!

There are still photo moments when the fog rolls in!

Strathcona Park

Whether or not the peak is closed we love it when couples give us another 30mins - 1 hour to photograph at the park. The winding boardwalk is amazing for and the lake can make for a great refection or backdrop!

5. Easy to Entertain your guests

Often times couples will worry about what their guests will do while they're having their photos taken. Mount Washington has so much for guests to see and do, AND they have fabulous accommodations for your guests to relax in! Mount Washington should be seen as both an amazing destination and wedding venue!

6. Raven Lodge & Customizations

Looking for something tasty to snack on after being on the dance floor? How about a poutine bar? Maybe you want to serve pizza at midnight! At Mount Washington, they believe your dream day should be custom fit for you with lots of opportunities for you to add a bit of your favourite foods! The Raven Lodge is a great reception venue high ceilings open space that you can decorate your own way to suit your ideas! Not every venue we go to is that easy going!!!

Twilight or Night Photos

If possible, we love to steal out couples off the dance floor or late dinner for 15 mins and take advantage of the spectacular sunsets, twilights or the nighttime to create some dramatic and romantic photos that you will cherish for years to come. Sometimes there are  2-4 flashes going off to create the exact look we are going for!
